On Wednesday 13th December a large number of our pupils and staff participated in the school’s annual Christmas Concert held at St Peter’s Church in Stockbridge.
Pupils and staff had worked hard rehearsing a varied selection of seasonal music and readings for the concert. This included the school choir, the orchestra, a staff choir and a number of smaller instrumental ensembles and vocal soloists. The concert was very well-attended by family and friends. It was led and conducted by Grace Leyman (Music Subject Leader), who said she was “delighted with the commitment, effort and enthusiasm shown by all pupils involved, working together to produce a thoroughly festive, quality performance”.
The evening was introduced by the Reverend Norton who also gave an address and led the prayers later in the service. Highlights included the candlelit opening to ‘Once in Royal David’s City’, led by soloist Lily Thomas-Tulloch; a beautiful rendition of ‘Hallelujah’ performed by soloist Freya Cavill, with choir backing; and the ever popular finale to the concert in which all joined in in ‘All I want for Christmas’ led by soloist Elyssa Newell. Musical highlights included a flute trio performing The Sleigh Ride’; a Year 11 Ensemble performing ‘White Christmas’ and a Saxophone solo: ‘King Boogie’ performed by Josh Toze.
Louisa Hiscock (Headteacher) summed it up commenting ‘the evening provided a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season and showcased the musical talents of our pupils and staff. The pupils who gave readings are also to be commended. Finally, out thanks to our hosts at St Peter’s Church who always make us so welcome each year’.
