Dance Festival

Test Valley School hosted a ‘Superheroes’ themed workshop in dance for our local primary schools. This festival event has been successfully running for 12 years.

Dance festival: TVS Sports Leaders as superheroesSports Leaders, all pupils at Test Valley School, started planning this for this year back in November with Mrs Smith (School Sports Co-ordinator). Pupils from the local primary schools of Lockerley, Broughton, West Tytherley, Stockbridge, King’s Somborne, Wallop & Wherwell were invited to attend the festival over 3 days.

The Gremlin Dance Company taught the primary school pupils a morning workshop based around the theme “Superhero” with choreography around their understanding of what makes a hero. The children explored the idea that even small, everyday acts of kindness constitute being a superhero and working together to make the world a better place.

Children learned set dance as well as composing their own motifs to beat the evil ‘Dr Groove’! Pupils performed their own school dance in the afternoon. The VIP guests presented gold medals to all the primary school pupils. These medals were presented for enthusiasm with 100% effort throughout the day and excellent team work. The special VIP guests on Weds 28th June included the Mayor of Test Valley Councillor Mr Neal and the Mayoress Mrs Neal with the Town Mayor of Romsey Councillor Mr Hibberd. Both Mayors attended the dance showcases in the afternoon and presented the gold medals to the pupils at the end of the day.

Without our key sponsors this event could not take place: These were Hildon Natural Mineral Water, represented by Debbie Jones (Executive Director), Simplyhealth represented by Mrs Marshall (Community Fund Co-ordinator) Michael Austin Harlick Awards represented by Mrs Mills (Programme Manager of PE and School Sport).  Mayor of Test Valley Councillor Mr Neal said:

“[We have] just been entertained with three amazing dance performances illustrating the theme “superheroes”. Well done to the West Tytherley and Wherwell primary schools.”
