Geography Trip to Portsmouth

Geography trip to PortsmouthYear 10 Geographers visited Portsmouth and Southsea as part of their GCSE course.  The focus of the visit was to practise fieldwork techniques.

Pupils carried out some sampling along the beach at Southsea, investigating the angle of slope of the beach and the extent to which transportation sorts beach material in to size. The group also visited Gunwharf Quay to investigate the sphere of influence of the shopping centre and whether the centre is a “clone” of every other shopping centre in the country.  Pupils conducted interviews with members of the public as well as surveys of the types of shops which made up the shopping centre. The pupils will write up their findings in lessons and use the skills they have developed when they sit their Applied Fieldwork examination in Year 11.
