Investigating Density

Year 9 pupils were investigating density in their Science lessons by creating a density ladder (a column of different liquids that are stacked according to their density – the most dense is at the bottom, with the least dense floating on top)

They further investigated the density of solids by floating paper clips, Lego bricks and Lego people in the container to compare the liquids and investigate how the objects’ density compared with the liquids. One pupil noticed the bricks ended up head first as they were air heads, which is technically true as their heads are less dense. Later they were looking at how different fizzy drinks cans have different density based on their sugar content.
