On Monday evening and Thursday and Friday mornings we opened our doors to showcase our school to prospective pupils and their families. Everyone – pupils, teachers and support staff – all joined together to share and celebrate our school community.
When families arrived for our Open Evening, they were greeted and welcomed by smiling Year 11 prefects offering prospectus folders full of valuable information about Test Valley School. The dining hall was filled with staff and PTA members providing refreshments and handing out ‘passports’ for our younger guests to complete as they went around the school.
Miss Hiscock, the Head Prefects and Deputy Head Prefects gave introductory talks in the Main Hall. This was followed by the opportunity to tour the school with our prefects and meet pupils and staff in every subject area.
The ‘passport’ was a booklet highlighting all the activities children could take part in and visit on the evening. It also included a map to help guide our guests around the school if they chose to tour independently. Stamps from each subject area were collected by children to receive a small gift at the end of the evening. The activities were exciting and fun. It was evident that the teachers and pupils involved in each classroom really enjoyed presenting their subjects and activities.
Open Mornings were on Thursday and Friday. These offered the opportunity to visit our school on a typical day of lessons for the pupils with guided tours by the prefects to drop in to lessons and find out more. The mornings began with families again being greeted by our welcoming prefects whilst in the Main Hall pupils entertained our visitors with a musical presentation. Miss Hiscock introduced the school followed by our Head and Deputy Prefects. Unexpectedly, the evacuation bell sounded but the school was able to, without warning, show their ability to perform a rigid and practised drill in response. Once it was confirmed to be a false alarm the morning continued without skipping a beat. Some visitors asked us if this was planned as it showcased the school and behaviour of the school so well!
After guided tours, visitors had the opportunity to join Miss Hiscock and the Senior Team for coffee, and cake. It was at this point that parents were able to ask further questions and share any feedback.
All of these events have brought a lot of positive feedback and we want to thank all those involved and everyone who was able to attend. If you were not able to attend and would like to join one of our school tours, please do contact the Michelle Harry (PA to the Headteacher) firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 01264 812006.
