Governors Pen Portraits

R Chappell

I trained as a statistician and worked in statistical roles in Government, higher education and industry. I am fairly technical, numerate and analytical. In the last ten years of my statistical career I was a senior civil servant at the Office for National Statistics. This gave me relevant experience for being a Board member and I served as a non-exec of the Higher Education Statistics Agency. I am used to presenting complex concepts to varied audiences. I was responsible for large teams delivering statistics and as a result have experience of managing budgets and of leading people paying close regard to HR rules. I have experience of negotiation, e.g. I had to negotiate with the Finance Director to secure my budget and justify spend. I was Head of Site which gave me experience of crisis management (e.g. bomb scare). I did lecture on statistics at university and am concerned about the importance of education as a fundamental building block of society.

Mr B Howard

I have lived in Stockbridge for 14 years and am a parent with children at Stockbridge Primary and Test Valley Schools. I have been a Governor at the primary school for 3 years.

I am also a Company Director focussing on Safety and Compliance Management in the aviation sector and have held the position of Safety and Compliance Manager numerous times. Much of this work involves statistical analysis and forecasting as well as application of strategic plans and incident investigation. In this sphere I have helped design a Software system in use in the sector to improve safety and compliance outcomes.

I enjoy cycling and cooking.

Ms H Lankester

I have spent my working life in education and, although my main experience has been in Further Education, I have taught at all levels. Latterly my experience in FE was in a management role. I have also worked part-time for a national exam board as a moderator and monitor of quality. Before moving back to Hampshire nearly four years ago I was a governor at a Primary School in Kent for nineteen years, seven of which were as Chair of Governors. I am actively interested in the conservation of a local nature reserve, local history and genealogy.

Mrs D Martin

I was appointed as a Local Authority Governor March 2013 and in the new constitution became a Co-Opted Governor serving on the Financial and Staff and Students Committee. In February 2016 I was re-appointed as a Local Authority Governor. I worked overseas for approximately 20 years and was involved in Duty Free Shops in Dubai and Asia on the the management, finance and planning. My four children were all born in Hong Kong and I have an interest in Education and the continual challenging changes.
