Year 9 Futures Event

Research shows that on average people now change their jobs every 4 to 5 years. What ever happened to the job for life? Technology and efficiency came along removing the need for many traditional jobs and replacing them with different jobs.

Year 9 Futures Event:

This leaves our current school pupils posing the question: What can I do for a living and how can I become qualified? The advice we would give is: do not put all your eggs in one basket, study a broad range of GCSEs to keep your options open and when considering a career path, ask yourself this question: “How likely is it that a computer/robot will be able to do this job for me in the future?”. These are just some of the questions and solutions going through the minds of Year 9 pupils as they experienced their Year 9 Futures Event. Helping them was a series of workshops including GCSE ‘speed dating’ to find out more about the GCSE courses they can choose, careers profiling, an apprenticeship workshop and talks by Andover College and Winchester University.

One pupil commented:

“Going around each of the workshops has made me realise just how many different options there are, including ones I originally had not considered”.

Another pupil said

“Today has been really helpful before I choose my GCSE subjects for next year”.

Race for the Line

On Tuesday 27th February Year 7 pupils took part in the Race For The Line Competition race day. This involves a team from RAF Odiham visiting the school to facilitate the launch and timing of rocket cars designed and built by Year 7 teams back in December. This is a STEM competition run by the learning partnership and a first for Test Valley School. It was an extremely cold day but Year 7 were well wrapped up and all rocket cars were launched successfully. Timings for the day will be entered onto a national leader board and the teams with the fastest times will be invited to the regional finals in the summer. Fingers crossed!

Winter Wonderland

Last week school was closed for two days due to the snowfall we experienced. Test Valley School had a white blanket of snow covering it for a few days.

‘Snow’ Much Fun for the Y7 Football Team

Y7 FootballOn Tuesday the Year 7 football team played Testbourne in the Andover and District Schools League. The boys braved the ‘Beast from the East’ to play their fixture. They conceded an early goal but showed great resilience and determination to fight back and equalise just before half time.  With the wind behind them the boys had a stronger second half to win the game 3-1. Man of the Match was Ethan Farr (goalkeeper) who played a big part in the result. Many thanks to Testbourne for their contribution to a good spirited game.Y7 Football
