Test Valley School is a small 11-16 secondary school on the outskirts of Stockbridge (one of the “best places to live” in The Sunday Times in 2022). We are looking to recruit reliable and trustworthy exams invigilators to support the Examinations Officer. You will need to work flexibly according to the examinations' timetable throughout the academic year. As an invigilator, you will be required to support the examination processes. You must follow the required guidelines and regulations for the integrity and security of examinations and procedures during invigilation. The role requires you to provide a professional examination service ensuring a calm environment to give candidates the best possible opportunity to be successful in their exams.

The successful applicant will need to fulfil the safeguarding requirements of the role and adhere to the school’s safeguarding policy. Full training will be provided.

Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA)

Part time:                   2 days / 15 hours per week. Hours are negotiable: 8.30am to 16.30pm

We are seeking to employ an experienced ELSA with expertise in supporting pupils with a range of needs. The ideal candidate should demonstrate enthusiasm, resilience, initiative, good time management, patience, kindness and a passion for working with and assisting young people.  

Applicants should be willing to attend specific training to meet individual student needs.

Role:

To work as part of the Special Educational Needs and Disability team in delivering high impact emotional literacy intervention.

Line Manager:

Assistant headteacher for SEND and Inclusion

Work in partnership with:

Assistant headteacher for SEND and Inclusion, Interim SENDCo, SEND administrator, SEND HLTA, fellow LSAs and Class teachers.

Duties:

In relation to the individual student:

To carry out the professional duties of an ELSA.

To deliver interventions to pupils 1:1 and in small groups.

To develop an understanding of the special educational needs of the student/s concerned. Be aware of students’ backgrounds and needs (have read Student SEND passports, EHCP’s for individual students any other relevant document) and implement strategies

To build and maintain successful relationships with student, treat them consistently, with respect and consideration.

 Set high expectation which inspire, motivate and challenging pupils and contribute to the life of the school.

To assist students with emotional needs

To model good practice.

To help build the student/s’ confidence and enhance self-esteem.

In relation to the school and SEND department:

To work as part of the team in relation to individual students, liaising, advising and consulting where appropriate.

To support implementation of school policies and procedures, including those relating to confidentiality and behaviour.

To identify personal training needs and to attend appropriate internal and external in-service training.

Maintain an awareness of school, national and statutory policies and requirements and apply these in the workplace.

Any other tasks as directed by the Headteacher which fall within the purview of the post.

Work with outside agencies.

To measure and record identified students’ emotional literacy progress (e.g. demonstrating impact of intervention through use of SMART targets and Provision Mapper)

Liaise with the pastoral team, heads of year, SENDCo and SEND adminstrator to identify key students

Attend relevant meetings for SEND students you support and / or submit notes and information for meetings with outside agencies such as CAMHs, Education psychologists etc

Supervision arrangements:

 • Formal review of performance with Line Manager.

 • Weekly department meetings for team with Pastoral.

Working conditions – environment, and physical effort or strain:

Expected to maintain behaviour management standards of children, some of whom can be especially challenging and difficult, and deal with racial/abusive language and bullying

Health & Safety responsibility for self, children and area which is particularly demanding in a child centred environment

Initial induction/training required to become effective in the role

• Knowledge of school and school systems/policies.

• Approach towards pupil behaviour management. 

• Professional relationships between staff and pupils.

 • Developing health and safety knowledge.

 • Independent working, with groups of or individual children

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Senior Cover Supervisor to organise the planning and allocation of cover arrangements for planned and unplanned absences, and supervising classes during the short-term absence of teachers. This is a busy role requiring a patient but assertive manner and the ability to deal with a range of situations.  Good organisational skills are essential, as is the ability to work both independently and as a team.

Candidates will be committed to the learning and development of pupils and must possess good GCSE qualifications (or equivalent).  In return we will offer you the opportunity to train and develop,  this might be an excellent opportunity for someone considering a career in teaching.

We are a small school with approximately 400 pupils on roll. The school is set in a beautiful rural community, and we pride ourselves on working with all our young people as well as their families in the wider community.

The role is term time only, thus allowing a really healthy work, life balance. At Test Valley School, we pride ourselves on ensuring our pupils are engaged and involved in their own learning, so they feel an ownership of their school. Pupils will achieve their potential in their examinations but, just as importantly, will develop life skills enabling them to be successful adults.

We are looking for a compassionate and caring individual who can quickly and accurately assess the needs of young people who report as ill or who have a first aid need and can take positive action to help. Ideally, you will have some form of medical background that allows you to talk and operate with confidence when supporting young people and communicating with their parents/carers. Being a friendly face who is available for young people who seek help as they navigate puberty or health worries is vital. It is also vital that the successful candidate doesn’t suffer fools gladly either, as building resilience in young people is so important for their personal development.

As the Medical and Welfare Officer for the school you will:

• Assess first aid problems presented by pupils and staff, taking appropriate action in the event of an emergency and communicating with staff and parents as necessary.

• Keep an up-to-date record of accidents and incidents, including details of injuries, make any required RIDDOR reports for accidents at work, review for patterns and report to the Health & Safety Leader.

• Be responsible for administering prescribed drugs which are necessary to be taken by pupils during the school day, ensuring that parental consent is obtained and recorded.

• Maintaining the medical register.

• Be responsible for the safe keeping of prescribed drugs in a locked cupboard.

• Carry out stock audits of all first aid boxes and first aid kits throughout the school and ensure they are replenished.

• Maintain stocks and order medical supplies and equipment in order to ensure adequate emergency medical resources exist within the school Co-ordinate, administer and maintain Individual Health Care Plans and risk assessment for pupils with specific medical needs in conjunction with parents, the SEND Team and any other relevant health care professionals.

• Ensure these are communicated to relevant staff members.

• Work with the Attendance Officer and Year Teams to support pupil attendance in school.

• Coordinate all government led immunisation programmes.

• Ensure teaching and support staff have appropriate awareness and understanding of the common medical conditions in the school.

• Be responsible for creating materials to display this information in key areas of the school.

• Supporting trip planners with the medical provision required whilst working with students outside of the main school site.

• Support the process of transition for year 6 students moving to year 7 at Test Valley School and liaise with primary schools regarding student’s medical needs.
